Reel 'Rajneeti' resembles Real 'Rajneeti'

Prakash Jha’s ambitious political drama Raajneeti has run into some more trouble, only this time from a source it least expected. The Censor Board, which viewed the film yesterday, has refused to grant it a certificate. The Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer will now be referred to a Revising Committee before a final call is taken.

Apparently the Censor Board feels that the ‘hard hitting’ political drama is a little too hard hitting in some portions, where the difference between real politicians and reel characters becomes uncomfortably thin.

After a lengthy debate, the screening committee decided that since it was a sensitive issue and could snowball into a major problem, it was only prudent to get a second opinion from more members of the Censor Board before issuing a certificate.

A source says, “The Censor Board seemed divided. While some officials felt that they could go ahead with the certification, others cautioned against any hasty decision.”

While regional officer Vinayak Azad remained unavailable for comment, Raajneeti’s director Prakash Jha too seemed hesitant about speaking on the matter.

While he initially maintained that there was “no problem”, even putting the delay down to technical reasons. “It is just that the screening could not be completed because of some reason,” he said.

But when it became clear that the Censor Board would not grant a certification immediately, he said, “Yes, the Revising Committee will now take a decision on Raajneeti. The Censor Board felt that they need to show the film to more officials before taking a decision.”

Ever since Jha announced the film a year ago, there have been reports that Katrina’s character in the film is inspired by Sonia Gandhi. But Jha says he didn’t realise that it could mean so much trouble. “Frankly, I didn’t expect this. But it’s okay. I don’t think that the Revising Committee will necessarily find a problem with the film.”

Kat loves Cat

Not for nothing is she called Kat. Her favourite cartoon is The AristoCats and her reference point for her character in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan is one of the cats from the cartoon serial. And if you think that’s a lot of cats you ain’t seen nothing baby.

Katrina Kaif’s car reflects her love for the cartoon character as well as speaks tonnes for the state of mind she is currently in.

The left rear seat is surrounded by small stickers of all that makes her happy ... she calls it her ‘happy space’.

“When I was dubbing for Raajneeti, the little urchins on the road recognized my car when it stopped at a particular signal and would insist I buy stickers from them,” she explains with a smile.

Not only did she buy them she decorated her happy space with them and now they are the source of a lot of joy for her.

For a girl who is feted every day and who can buy anything that money can, Katrina has obviously learnt that happiness and money have very little to do with each other.

The problems for Raajneeti seem to be getting more pronounced. Earlier this week, there was a Mumbai-based social worker Naseem Khan who filed a petition in court against Raajneeti asking for its release to be stopped because one of the central characters apparently resembles Sonia Gandhi. Now one hears that actor and self-styled star Kamal R Khan (or KRK as he likes to be called) has sent Prakash Jha a legal notice claiming rights over the title Raajneeti.

Days after the release of his film Jab We Met , Shahid Kapur has been signed for another romantic comedy. This time his heroine is not Kareena Kapoor .
Shahid is certainly moving to the higher league in Bollywood. His cute look and dimpled smile still make him look like a boy, but Shahid is getting lead roles opposite actresses that look mature than him.
First, it was director Aziz Mirza to cast him in his film ‘Kismat Connection’ opposite Vidya Balan . The film has already been shot and its post-production work is underway.
Now, it is Rajkumar Santoshi who has signed Shahid to play the leading man opposite gorgeous Katrina Kaif in his next movie.
Santoshi, known mostly for making films with socio-political themes, is now eager to explore a genre he hasn’t tried so far – romantic comedy.
The obvious question that arises is – Is the film about a young guy in love with a mature woman?
Santoshi says he cannot divulge any details about the story. However, he does state that he found Shahid and Katrina perfectly suited for the roles.
Both the actors have given their nod to the project but their dates are yet to be sorted out.
This would be the first time Shahid and Katrina will work together. It remains to be seen how they get along with each other on the sets because Shahid’s ‘cold war’ with Katrina’s beau Salman Khan has been going for a long time.

After success of Don – The Chase Begins, Farhan Akhtar is back with the sequel Don 2 – The Chase Continues starring Sharukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Isha Kopikaar as main leads. Other actors expected to play role in Don 2 are Arjun Rampal, Boman Irani, Om Puri and Kareena Kapoor. As per the sources, the shooting for the film is expected to start in a few months and movie is expected to release in 2011. Farhan says, the shooting of the film will take place in Philippines and Germany, with a few scenes in other European countries. According to ‘Times of India’ Don 2 will be ‘one of the most anticipated sequels of all time’.

According to some sources, Farhan says that the story of Don 2 (sequel of Don) is being written by fans only. He says that 2 enthusiastic boys namely Ameet and Amreesh came to me with their bright ideas about how the story of Don can be carries forward and a new sequel namely ‘Don 2′ can be written. Conclusively, the story of Don 2 is being written by 3 fans of Don.

'BOLLYWOOS' THE BLACK LADY
At the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards, the night was forever young at Yash Raj Studios — even at 1.30 am yesterday when the dance floor pulsated with the energetic feet of GenNext’s stars, Ayush Khedekar, Tanmay Chheda, Azharuddin Mohammed, Ashutosh Lobo, Rubina Khan and Tanvi Ganesh.
Recognise them? The Slumdog kids of Mumbai, new to Bollywood, but world weary already after their trip to Hollywood for the Oscars. All smiles and bubbling with enthusiasm, they had superstar Shah Rukh Khan earlier describing them as the fresh and new talents of Bollywood’s future”. The Bollywood Badshah generously included emcees Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan, who replaced Karan Johar and himself at the glittering function, in his felicitation of the Slumdog Millionaire team and said pointing at the duo, “They are the future, we must nurture them.”
You could see that onscreen rivalry was replaced for Bollywood bonhomie at the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards. Ranbir and Imran, with a wicked sense of humour, ran through the audience like liquid fire, poking fun here, making a jibe there, pulling a leg, raising laughs all the time.
When they hit the ‘gay’ note, Dostana filmmaker Karan Johar joined in, with the stunning Deepika Padukone and Konkona Sen Sharma adding the glam bit to the onstage compering. But it wasn’t only about fun. There were feel-good themes and moments — the need of the recession-hit hour. Hope was the underlining theme and underdogs really stole the show.
Hrithik Roshan and the most deserving Priyanka Chopra bagged the Best Actor and Best Actress award respectively, and Jodhaa Akbar was declared the Best Film, but small budgeted films like Mumbai Meri Jaan (Best Film for Critics Award and Best Screenplay), Oye Lucky Lucky and Rock On also made the grade and took away several honours.
Then there was Oscar winner and veteran costume designer Bhanu Athaiya going up at 82 with much grace to collect the Lifetime Achievement Award. “It’s better late than never,” she smiled adding, “costume designers were never taken that seriously in Bollywood even after we got the Oscar home. But young designers are changing that.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award was also given to Om Puri by Amitabh Bachchan. And Puri, on a emotional note, recalled his days as “scrawny, longhaired, funny-looking fellow” who dared to dream.
The nail-biting moments onstage were challenged by scenes offstage that couldn’t be caught by the camera or emcees. Like the Bachchan clan walking in majestically and heading for the front row where already was sitting Bollywood’s grande dame Rekha!
And Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan discreetly going backstage when Shahid Kapoor stepped out front to dance; then, sneaking out when he returned to his seat after the performance. Also, the audience thinking Kangana Ranaut in her Best Supporting Actress speech meant boyfriend Adhyayan when she mentioned “someone special”... only to find the hot actress was describing her sister Rangoli!
Performance wise, Abhishek Bachchan, the lovely Katrina Kaif, newcomer Jackie Bhagnani and Shahid Kapoor set the stage on fire. Bipasha, Rekha and Katrina complimented Shahid. “You rock,” Bips told him. And Rekha added, “You’ll come to
collect your Best Actor Award in ten months’ time.”
The entire audience put in a performance for double Oscar winner A R Rahman by giving him a standing ovation: he won the Filmfare Award for Best Background Score. Anil Kapoor missed the event but daughter Sonam made up as she came, gave an award and quietly left.
Shah Rukh Khan summed up the feeling of the moment at the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards when he said, “Om Puri recalled his struggling days, and I remember my days when I was also scrawny, long-haired and funny-looking ... but we dared to dream and we made it. So there’s hope for everyone who dreams.”

Rekha and Aby’s Baby

Rekha was the the diva of the night. And though she was all decked up, she was pretty pecked up as well. After all, those pecks on the cheeks to all the sundry didn’t go amiss. But the golden moment of the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards was when Rekha went up to Abhishek Bachchan and planted a peck on his stubbled cheek. Ahem! Some ‘cheek’, huh?

Imran adopting mamu-jaan Aamir’s Ghajini look took the cake. How is Aamir going to react to this? “Well, I had warned him about it earlier,” said Imran and added, “He has a sense of humour, you know.” His co-host Ranbir Kapoor came dressed as Shah Rukh Khan from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The two young men had everyone in splits!

Ash goes the distance
 
Aishwarya Bachchan, who looked stunning, had gone through some trouble to make it to the venue. “I was shooting in Kolkata for Mani. It’s a two-hour flight and was further delayed. So it has been quite an adventure to get here,” she said. But then her trip was worth it. She, Abhi and Pa made for some great family pics.

Saif-Kareena have a blast
 
Kareena Kapoor arrived a little late. The gorgeous girl was busy shooting for Karan. She walked in with Saifoo jaan wearing a stunning saree and jewellery by Parineeta. Saif too looked dapper in a suit. The two had a blast at the event.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
 
The beautiful couple Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan looked just so perfect together. Even though SRK came wearing a sling around his shoulder, he rocked. Gauri too looked stunning in a black number. And what one couldn’t miss was the camaraderie that the two share. Cho chweet!

These two are undoubtedly the hottest couple of Bollywood. Bipasha Basu and beau John Abraham came for the event directly after attending John’s friend’s engagement party. Was it the reason why the sexy Bips draped herself in a traditional sari? She looked hot in Gili jewellery!
